This past weekend we attended the Contemporary Longrifle Association show in Lexington Kentucky. It was a great show as it always is. Every year the show gets bigger and bigger and the best artisans are always in attendance. On display we had 2 of our hand made rifles a fully carved and engraved Lancaster Fowler which is for sale a fully carved and engraved Ladies rifle and another Lancaster Fowler stocked in beautiful curly maple which is also for sale. We were glad to see some familiar faces while we were there and we had a great time.
Every year there are 3 awards given out at the show. The Pioneer award the Distinguished Service award and the Education award. Mel Hankla was awarded for his Distinguished Service to the CLA and Wallace Gusler was given the Education Award. The Pioneer Award was given to Brad Emig. The Pioneer award is given to those who are Pioneers in their field and have been working at what they do for years and years leading the way with knowledge and understanding for Traditional Gun Making. Brad has been researching traditional rifles and studying them as well as building them for over 25 years now and has always been very open to share all his knowledge and understanding of the traditional arts. The award was a nice surprise and very appreciated by Brad.
Two of Shanes knives were also featured at the show in a display named "The Long and Short of It". The display represents many different artisans and includes rifle/pistol collections as well as cutlery. Of coarse the knives are the longest and shortest in the collection of Shanes knives. It was nice to see some of our work on display at other tables. We hope everyone got to see the show and if you didn t we hope to see you next year!
