Very fine matched pair of highly ornate English fowlers custom built by gunmaker Michael Hayes. This is truly a unique set of fowlers, with their match grade figured walnut stocks, hand engraved brass furniture, sculpted silver wrist escutcheons, and relief carvings all mirroring each other with inticate and finite detail.
Each fowler has been numbered to indicate that it is part of the set, and each one has been numbered a total of tree times; on top of the buttplate finial, at the breech, and on the ram rod tip. Fowler number “one” is chambered in 20 gauge smoothbore, while fowler number “two” is chambered in .54 caliber rifled. The rifled barrel comes with the addition on a fire blued rear sight, which compliments the fire blued trigger and trigger plate, as well as the fire blued screws and sling swivel mounts.
The 38 inch barrels were sourced from Colerain Barrel Co and feature an octagon to round profile with a french grey finish. The Round-Faced English Flintlocks were sourced from Jim Chambers Ltd. and feature a hand polished finish with a decoratively engraved “M Hayes” banner on the lock plate
Just an absolutely beautiful and artistically created pair of fowlers.
They measure 54 5/8″ in overall length, and have a trigger pull length of 14 3/8″.
The weight of the smoothbore is 6 lbs. 14 oz.
The weight of the rifled .54 caliber is 7 lbs. 8 oz.
