Original 18th Century Dutch Tobacco Box. All brass construction and fully engraved on every surface with heavy rolling ornamental scroll work around the body as well as the beveled surfaces of the faces. Both the lid and the bottom surfaces are engraved with religious depictions with Dutch text, and completely surrounded in ornamental scrolls. It’s in nice condition for its age, with the majority of the engraving being easily scene despite some surface wear. The hinge is in great working order and overall the box is solid. There is one repair on the bottom edge where the brass split, which has been soldered and reinforced from the inside.
Overall just a really beautiful example of period engraving.
It measures 6 3/4″ long x 2 1/2″ wide x 1 5/8″ tall.
