Success In the Field

George was hunting in New York this weekend with his custom built, Straight Rifled, Colonial Virginia rifle. George built this rifle from one of our Virginia Rifle kits during our Arms Making Workshop and he couldn’t wait to get out in the woods and see how it did. He had a great weekend, and ended up taking 2 doe with it. The first doe George took was at 91 yards and the second was at 35 yards. He says the accuracy of the straight rifling is amazing. He’s using a hornets nest wad paired with a .520 ball and a lubed patch. With that load the rifle was grouping 2″-3″ groups at 100 yards. Great shooting George!!! And congratulations on your deer harvest with a one of a kind unique rifle that you can proudly say you built yourself!
