.54 caliber Virginia Rifle

This .54 caliber Colonial Virginia Rifle is quite a unique and interesting offering.  Stocked in a nice piece of figured cherry, this rifle is outfitted with a traditional tapered ram rod, sling swivels, a hand coned muzzle and a large siler flintlock that has been completely gone over and hand tuned.  The unique feature on this rifle is the 42″ Colerain barrel with “Straight Rifling”.  Straight rifling, or “straight grooving”, is a rifling technique that we’ve found to be commonly used on many 18th Century American rifles, and was a historically used European rifling technique dating as far back as the 1480’s.  It proves to be an extremely versatile platform as it provides the ability to shoot both a patched round ball as well as a variety of shot loads, but from a rifle platform.  Great patina on this one as well with a black oxide finish on the iron and aged brass mounts throughout.  Any questions feel free to give us a call at the shop.
