This is a beautiful, early 1800’s Georgian period, Papier Mache snuff box. Papier Mache boxes became very popular in early 1800’s England. This particular one features a black painted surface, which would’ve been hard enamel coated for durability. The lid has very nice and elegantly painted silver and gold scroll work. As you can see, some of the painted scroll work is worn off from years of use. There are also some small nicks and scratches as you would expect from a piece of this age. The hinge is in perfect condition and the lid closes nice and tight.
