Ottawa Quilled Neck Knife by Jack and Donna Vargo. Jack was a Blacksmith, Author, Historian and an Archeologist. He published a number of scholarly papers as well as the book, “Spike Tomahawk: A Popular Tool and Weapon in Colonial North America.” Jack forged the knife for this outfit, which shows his large V cartouche on the right side of the blade. The knife measures 8″ in overall length and has a 3 5/8″ long blade. His wife Donna completed all of the Ottawa inspired quillwork, wrapping the entire handle of the knife in quilled braiding and creating the fully decorated neck sheath made of brain tanned hide.
This is a very nice outfit that was crafted by two artisans who are no longer with us. Jack and Donna owned and operated Belfort General Store for many years, eventually closing, and starting Beaver River Trading Company. They travelled throughout the Northeast doing shows and selling their artwork.
This outfit remains in “Like New” condition and would make a great addition to any collection.
