18th Century wall sconces were used to hang a variety of period lighting devices. Lanterns, candles and fat lamps being the most common. However, you can can use them to hang just about anything you wish. This example is beautifully hand-forged from wrought iron with great symmetry, delicate scrolls and a perfectly formed lantern hook. The surfaces remain in untouched condition with evidence of period whitewash from the cabin or hearth from which it was removed.
